It is a luxurious safari escape set in the heart of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary overlooking a waterhole and the vast Tsavo plains.

Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary provides a safe environment to over 50 species of mammals and 300 species of birds within 28,000 acres of rolling savanna and woodland habitats.

Large numbers of wildlife come to drink at the waterholes, Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge provides a rare opportunity to view animals at close proximity in their natural habitat. The lobby, restaurant, and terraced bar all provide excellent views and photographic opportunities.

An underground tunnel and bunker with ground-level windows provide unbelievably close yet safe access to a variety of wildlife as they drink water. The waterholes are illuminated by powerful floodlights as it gets dark, to make sure that you witness all the activity throughout the night.

The Sanctuary is a success story in sustainable conservation where wildlife – including elephant, lion, buffalo, and giraffe – thrive. Game drives are tightly controlled to ensure that animals are not harassed and some areas are completely closed to vehicles. Salt Lick Game Lodge has 96 unique rooms, all elevated on stilts and built across two levels, with en suite bathrooms with permanent showers and WC, and running hot and cold water. They can accommodate you in these rooms at three levels with double, twin, or triple beds depending on your preferred occupancy.

The elevated Restaurant and the Bar at Salt Lick Game, also offer stunning views of the sanctuary and the ideal vantage points to view the game. The Lodge has its own fleet of well-equipped safari vehicles with excellent guides.

The Sanctuary is happy to boast its own functional airstrip in close proximity to the  Safari lodge. This unique Lodge structure design is themed as a Taita traditional villages

The Sanctuary is home to more than 50 different species of mammals and over 300 species of birds. These include
elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, eagles, vultures, and much more.

The climate around Salt Lick Lodge

The climate is very pleasant with temperatures averaging between 18 Degrees C and 30 Degrees C year-round. There are sporadic rains in March, April, November & December. Due to the unique layout of the Lodge, it is not suitable for children below 8 years.

Salt Lick Bura Restaurant

The Main restaurant overlooking the watering holes, serving buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with live cooking counters preparing specialty dishes. Cuisine includes pan-African, pan-European and pan-Asian. The Salad buffet has a wide variety of salads using the freshest ingredients and herbs. The Dessert buffet has a selection of mouthwatering desserts. Vegetarian dishes are always available, and guests with any special dietary requirements are also catered for. The restaurant has a capacity of 150 people.

The Bar and adjoining shaded terrace above the Bura Restaurant provides spectacular views of the main waterhole and surrounding grasslands and is the perfect place to relax and have your favorite cocktail or coffee while watching the wildlife below.

Champagne Breakfast: A unique experience of dining in the wilderness on a sumptuous breakfast accompanied by champagne. The Breakfast includes live cooking against the backdrop of the Taita Hills and grassy plains of the Sanctuary.

Bush Dinners: The beautiful landscape sets the backdrop for a bush dinner at Kudu Point, the highest location in the Sanctuary. Spectacular sunsets and magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro weather permitting compliment a truly unique experience as you sip sundowners and experience a barbeque in the wild, accompanied by a trio of local musicians.

Game Viewing

Night Game Drives

Night game drives provide guests with an opportunity of seeing animals not usually encountered on a daytime game drive such as spotted and striped hyena, mongoose, jackal, civet, genet, porcupine and bush baby. Most predators are more active at night, so night drives also provide the opportunity of experiencing the ‘circle of life’. Sarova Salt Lick highly trained rangers equipped with powerful spotlights take guests for this experience of a totally different world after dark, when you may have the thrilling opportunity to see a predator actively hunting.
